The temptation to touch is almost irresistible. That temptation proved to be the undoing of George H. Brown, 52, of Lampasas, Texas, on the afternoon of August 24, 1928, the same day that Reverend Eakins had been killed two years earlier.

While bending over to stick his hand into the water, he lost his balance and toppled into the spring, which today measures around 200 degrees Fahrenheit. Brown was entirely submerged in the boiling water. His two frantic sons managed to extricate him, scalding their arms in the process. The unfortunate man was rushed toward the Mammoth hospital, but death occurred before he arrived there. Brown was conscious for the four hours prior to his death. He left a wife and nine children, and his funeral back in Lampasas was a major event.

Ever noticed that on the canisters in restaurants for tea and coffee dispensers? Someone got rich over it, they sued, the judge agreed, gave em money.

So if the hot spring doesn't clearly have a label that says "HOT DO NOT TOUCH" people will inevitably jump in due to the signs that brought them into the world. It's something similar with Chinese people dying in the city that were raised to be rice farmers, they drop right into elevator shafts and get hit by cars a lot and stuff. It just happens.
