I think east siberia is cool. I wonder if they would snatch me up though. I would like to hike off trail in the summer. Do you think they would let me do that or is going to Russia a corregraphed field trip.

Mutts aren't welcome there as official state policy, you'd be lucky to get in a tourist group trip to a touristy spot and it would take a few months to several years to approve. Large swaths are off limits even to Russian citizens for military reasons and large sections are heavily polluted with nuclear/military waste.

I visited the Urals briefly and was told it's literally suicide to go hiking if you're not inoculated against some tickborne illness which is rife in Siberia. But it's easy enough to get vaccinated; if I went back I'd do it.

Americans get arrested in Siberia for border or visa violations quite commonly, they usually just get fined and deported. When you're there on a tourist visa you cannot deviate from certain locations and activities. And even Russia's most remote border areas still have monitoring and they actually take their border security seriously.

If you get caught violating the travel plans without good reason you end up deported early and fined. The Russians don't treat other countries visas as harshly as they do Americans when it comes to violations and border controls.

You usually have to demonstrate a valid business purpose on a business visa, and if you're on a tourist visa for the first time you're 100% getting a general travel plan to stick to. The friendship visas are even harder than to get than a business one and would likely limit you to specific cities for the duration of your visit.

Eastern Siberia is essentially Alaska so yes, it is /out/ approved.
Remote as fuck though so you have to get airlifted in and packraft if you want to cover ground.

The taiga is almost impossible to keep under surveillance because of size. However you will be forced to join with locals because it's probably hard to bring any weapons to fend off wildlife

It can't be done in the way you fags think it can. To even go out in eastern Russia as an American you will have to set up a tour guide first, then get approved for a tourist visa (of which the tour guide is prerequisite). You can't just go wherever you want.
