My two cent contribution
I wanted to do some winter hiking/camping to a small mountain off King's river out past Sutton, other than some rather decent winter gear, a shotgun, and some mountain house I had no idea what I was doing. First couple days weren't so bad but I quickly realized just how hard it is to find water and to keep my filter viable, since there was no snow yet but the river was frozen solid I was smashing open a creek daily to get 3 liters that I had to wear at all times, my tent placement was terrible the first time since being at the foot of a mountain apparently ment constant wind at night fall and the ground pulled so much heat from my tiny roll up mat, not to mention the frost building up and slowly freezing all my shit. By the end of the first week the build up was so bad that I got desperate and used my cheap camp stove to thaw and dry everything out, nearly lost the tent when the stove tipped over on full blast. Went home for 3 days to dry everything out, then had the briliant idea to go out for one more week without my own ride since I was worried some asshat might smash my windows. Week two I managed to ruin my filter, run out of easy to make food, had to uproot 80 lbs of beetle kill just to stay warm a couple hours a day, enjoyed a nice full moon, and ran into one other guy who looked at me like I was retarded when he told me it was -27° and I was standing there with an open coat. I was in a bit of a stupor since I ran out of viable food 2 days before and had to hitchhike back home.
