It's not "doom" but cathedral. As in a cardinal or other church official, who wears red robes with a black cap. Many cathedrals have domes incorporated into the ceilings. folds up similar to >>1921732 and they're all over the show with it - like they won't just put it out occasionally, they'll flap it open n closed whether landed or flying. Noisy wings when they fly. You can't go anywhere in the bush without seeing one.

I like fishing herons, they are pretty cool guy who doesn't afraid of anything.

They always hang around the lakes and ponds and I see them when i /out/ fishing.

They get surprisingly big too, there's one down at the local canal where i fish that i sear must have a wingspan over the normal 150-175 cm its fucking huge, probably seems bigger fluffing up for winter but its so big when it flies close to the water it makes ripples on the surface

I´ll try to get a pic next time is see it

However, their derüy looks have always got me, apart from the fact that being called Bone Breaker is ddfinitely based. This guys will fly up with bones and throw them to the ground to break them and eat the bone marrow, which is also based.

Probably my favorite birds.
Pic related is a bird I took care of for a day back in high school. Was walking to school and this little guy was lying in the snow in the middle of the road with what seemed to be a broken leg and a small wound. Likely from a cat. Bird was happy to sit in my warm hands and sweater pocket and I spent the school day trying to call a vet who would rehabilitate the bird.
I've made friends with tons of them since. Lived in an apartment a few years ago with a small clan of 10 or so blue birds in the nearby trees. Once I began to feed them nuts and they realized I was a fren, they'd do all sorts of really unnecessary tricks that made me think they were showing off. I could also toss a peanut for them and they'd catch it in the air with a spectacular flip.
Never seen a bird do shit like that.

Always like seeing this guy in my backyard. Green woodpeckers live in trees and can and do feed from bugs under the bark, but they also frequently peck at the ground looking for ants and grubs. They have a yellow back, covered by the wings.

Based. NZ fantail likely split from a vagrant population of Rhipidura albiscapa or similar common ancestor, which is found throughout Australia. They have a similar habit here, and allow for very close shots if you're fast. Wonderful birds. I photographed this fellow R. albiscapa (possibly alisteri) late last year in VIC, aus.

Another ubiquitous Australian classic is Pachcephala pectoralis, or Golden Whistler. Similar to Grey Fantails, they will come and check you out and stay around for a few shots.

The best aus bird family, however is Petroicidae, the Australasian robins. Here photographed is Petroica phoenicea, a winter visitor to low lying areas of south-eastern Australia. One of my absolute favourites, found him parading around a few females on a baseball court in Melbourne last winter.

The best Petroica robin however, remains P. rosea, the beautiful rose robin. Only males display these colours (this photo is not saturated). Truly the greatest passerine to encounter when bushwalking, they stand out like a jewel in an otherwise fuscous and drab woodland backdrop. Lights my fucking heart up whenever I see them, dudes.

In FL we get all kinds of colors of finches in the winter flying down here. In the woods you'd not believe the colors. They are on par with parrots.

I just fed a finch nann bread at a bus stop.It was the normal brown color. It was funny watching it try to head shake the bread in pieces and failing over and over.

I wonder if the bread harmed it.

i made friends with my local murder of crows a few years ago when i saved one of their fledglings from being eaten by a cat. they follow me when I walk my dog cackling and clicking. they also leave bits of metal and other shiny stuff like parts of chip bags on my porch. i whistle at them when i see them and they click back at me. very different from the crow cawing sound.

I love the Carbdinals that live in my yew hedge near the feeder. Both male and female will just perch on it's edge like Christmas ornaments, waiting for more aggressive birds to let them sift through the feeder for their previous sunflower seeds

i like all corvids except the stellar jay but thats just because they make such a huge mess with my bird feeders. they intentionally fly in too fast and shake seeds all over my porch as the feeder swings back and forth. you can tell they enjoy doing it too.

Have a grey jay, canada jay, whiskey jack, camp robber. All the same bird, about as close to a smart, curious, social parrot as Canada will get. Usually have to get into real /out/ to find them.

Theres a robin in my garden that is a total bro. He is always right next to me when Im cutting the trees or mowing the lawn, searching for bugs I scare off. He also has the most beautifull voice and I always try talking to him by imitating his whistle, when he comes sitting next to me. I even saved his kid this summer when I found him lying on the street.
