Some of those sleep items are redundant. You probably won’t need the saw, or the shelter. If you have lighters then you don’t need the matches. You have water purification tablets so the filter is redundant. You forgot toilet paper.

OP here.
I was raised outdoors by a father who started prepping during the OPEC crisis in the 70s. I only just recently got a job that enabled me to splurge on some nicer gear than the milsurp/1970s shit I was raised on. Most of this is just that. I finally assembled the kit I always wanted to have and yes, its absolutely new.

I ditched the old Kelty and got a really good deal on the new pack on DVOR. I think I paid like $200...?

When I used to go camping with my dad, we used those brass Svea style stoves. I always kindof liked them and I guess I figured the jetboil would translate well there.

As far as the sleep systems go, I used to use an old army cold weather bag. I liked it a lot, but it was super heavy and leaked feathers all over the damn placs. The Snugpak I got is rated down to about 24°, and with the bivi, I figured it would work out nicely. The sleep pad is non negotiable. I've tried a couple of things, and the Sea-to-Summit has been the most comfortable and packable.

Interesting thoughts on the saw. I always used an old Estwing hatchet, but since my nephew took it, I figured I'd try something new and lighter. I had kindof hoped to save the edge a little on my knife and the Laplander had good reviews.

As for the redundancy between water purification and fire starters, you're right. They are redundant. That's the idea.

I've used shoe-goo for a lot over the years. It fixes holes and rips, and has sealed the soles of my boots more times than I can count. I just really like it, though I was I'd gotten a smaller tube this time around.

And yes, I carry a rifle. Suck my whole ass.

I'm not worried about bugging out. Just to do some scenic hiking/camping in the great outdoors for a few days. The most I've ever done is 3 nights. Id like to push that to a full 7.

As for the pack, like I said, I was browsing a gun gear/tac shit retailer when I saw a pretty good deal on the Eberlestock. First new pack I've ever bought. Before that was a beat up old CFP90 I got in a surplus store. And no, I dont much care about looking like a .mil hardo.

Yes, I am in fact, a huge pussy when it comes to comfort.

I dont mind the knife redundancy. I use the Esee for wood and big stuff, the folding knife for small shit, and the multitool for pliers mostly.

Petzls that bad? I wanted a headlamp to replace my old streamlight polytac/Maglite micro combination.

The nalgenes were free, so can't really argue with that. I just grabbed the cup cause I like some tea in the morning.

As for the water filter, I'm interested to try this one out. I had some dog shit Katadyn one I got years ago and hated. It always made my water taste weird.

You may stock up on your IFAK.
We have figured out a modular system, depending on the situation.
A small trauma/bubu Kit for EDC when the next ambulance is only 15 minutes away or not needed.
For (few days) hiking near civilization, but no roads we add stuff like a SAM splint, more bandages, burn stuff, some medicine.
For car camping on a family camping site some additional box of bubu‘s and stuff the standard family camper forgets. Keeps the neighborhood friendly and quiet.
For other occasions we add a suture kit etc

For the Petzls; the older ones had only the modes bright and too dimm. So the batteries went down very fast. Switched to Black Diamond and happy with it.

Backpacking id lose half of it and get a rain poncho which can be a tarp or water collection too.

If you're setting up a camp just roll with it and see what you dont use.

Theres alot of variables, backpacking, ditch the MT and the folder, the stove, pillow, filter

Those uco matches are nice but if you shits soaked they still won't light it, even the titan ones, 2 or 3 lighters in different packs.

Backpacking you want a small med kit, disinfectant, superglue, tensor bandage, tweezers, razorback

I think you spent alot of money on shit you dont need but its not useless

I like to use my Trangia in the morning, no pissing around with fire just light it and boom, but you have to carry fuel so I only use it if I'm staying put for the most part

Imo youre ok to camp, throw the pack on your car and drive off, easy. I know people that literally bring the fucking kitchen sink ffs, or a portable outhouse

Backpacking you're going to want to refine that based on your own requirements

I didn't look up how your filter works but most filters are susceptible to damage (microfractures invisible from the outside) if you use them and then freeze them, so keep it warm on your body if you're using it in the winter.

I haven't, anytime I'm on a long enough outing that I can't pack all my water it's in the winter and I just drink snow. I did pick up a Grayl Geopress in tacticool larper black recently, so I'm looking forward to trying that before the weather gets much colder. I was planning on getting a Sawyer mini filter to use in line with my CamelBak bladder, would you recommend against that?

I have six moon designs pack for backpacking, but for hunting I have a couple different sizes of eberlestocks. Amazing packs if your lugging a gun in one. Entirely worth the weight, because your probably talking a frame, and it needs to be durable enough to lug back your gun and your meat, plus whatever gear you had on you for survival. They sit so damn well on your back it's insane, barely feels like anything is there.

Dude I own and use a Sawyer mini regularly to the point of rekting the water pouch, it fucking sucks. When you're thirsty as fuck the last thing you want is having a squirt tier flow of water and having to push extra hard to get it.
There are filters out there that might not be as light or last as long but considering we're talking about hydration here it's worthy since they offer a much better flow.
