Hello guys,

I really want to camp but I live in a country where you can get vined for even pissing outside and it's illegal to camp anywhere. Could you guys give me some pointers on how to stay hidden and out of trouble? I go hiking everyday but I've never really done any bushcraft stuff because I don't live near any big forests. So jealous of you Americans, you don't know how good you have it. Europe is suffocating.

Don't do any bushcraft stuff. Carry a gas stove, don't have a fire. I don't know the specifics of your country but over here it's unheard of to be ticketed for just spending the night innawoods. If they see you're not littering, damaging the plants or starting fires they'll probably leave you alone, if you even manage to run into a forest ranger. They're not an army, they don't patrol every sector of the woods day and night.
Find a quiet spot out of sight that's not reachable by wheeled vehicles. Mark its location then go find another one, so you have a backup if it turns out the place you chose is compromised in some way. Wait until evening with setting up your sleeping arrangements. Normies don't wander around the woods after dark, especially outside of maintained roads.

I grew up in the most heavily forested state, and I actually prefer being outdoors in Europe. Your woods and mountains have more soul and history. A hill in America is just a hill. In Europe it's a beacon, an iron age fort, a Roman landmark, a goblin's knoll. I guess it's a 'grass is greener' situation. But to address your question, I've stealth camped in every Western
and Central European country (except Monaco and the Vatican). I only got caught once, by a Sardinian farmer, and he didn't give a fuck. Nobody gives a fuck if you're subtle and don't light fires (I do light fires but I'm very discreet)
There's plenty of wilderness in Europe where you can find freedom. Name any country and I'll tell you where you can go to practice bushcraft and be alone.
Pic is Andorra; I've never felt so isolated even in the Rocky Mountains.

Set up your camp in the evening, take it down in the morning. Use a tent in discrete colors. Camp away from roads, trails, in secluded/hidden areas. Consider a stove instead of a fire (fires smell and are visible). Consider an alcohol stove instead of a gas stove (gas stoves make noise, but it's only really a concern if you camp close to a trail). For extra stealth points, be mindful of how you look on the trail - put your tent and sleeping pad inside your backpack, for example. If you rock up to a forest with pots and and an axe dangling from your 90 liter pack, you'll raise suspicion.

Which brings me to the next point - behavior. Be quiet, be courteous and respectful. A guy boiling some noodles on an alcohol stove in a 1-person tent in the woods, who doesn't litter, who will just pack up and leave without a trace in the morning, and who says he's just out to enjoy nature and hike, will be tolerated far more often than someone with a crappy Decathlon tent and a camping chair, who hacked down some saplings to make a smoldering fire, drinks a six pack with his Subway footlong, scattering wrappers and cans around the fire as their Bluetooth speaker blasts Sweet Home Alabama. And all of this a few minutes from a parking on a (private) road.

I live in mainland Greece and the cops only give a fuck if you light a fire in the summer (not a clever thing to do here) or camp near a beach that has people making money off it (rooms to let, beach bars etc.). I camp in the mountains and I only see people during the July and August and only on a handful of well known trails. Go literally 50m off-trail and no one will ever see you.

It's technically illegal to camp because of a law from the 1890s, but hammock camping doesn't count as camping and as I said nobody snitches here if you're not a dipshit leaving trash and lighting fires.

Several things.
1. There are no sleeping bags that are good for 0-25C. Either the manufacturer or the seller is bullshitting. Respectable manufacturers will give several numbers based on a standardized test to give you an idea how warm their bag is. Normally it's Tcomf - comfortable for a woman lying on her back, Tlim - comfortable for a man lying on the side, Textreme - lowest temperature at which you'll survive without hypothermia, and optionally Tmax, a temperature at which you'll be too hot in a given bag. I don't see those numbers here, maybe they're hidden somewhere but normally they're featured prominently in the product's description.
2. The shape. You want a mummy bag ESPECIALLY in the winter. Less material to carry, and less empty space to heat up. This also reminds me, there is no way that a rectangular sleeping bag with synthetic filling weighing 1.5 kg will be warm at 0C.
3. The size. If you're a normal-sized man, it will be too narrow. I've had 80cm wide bags and they still felt constricting and made it hard to bend my arm inside to unzip them. 85 cm in the chest area is optimal, maybe more if you're super fat.
And yeah the backpack will be too small. Maybe you should wait for the summer to start camping, then build up a gear collection once you gain experience and know what you need.

General advice, it's not worth skimping on the sleeping bag. This is why I have 4, 2 of them useless because I didn't know what the fuck I was doing when I got them.

Tested in a hammock at 2C with wind, so in a tent it should handle a few degrees less.Don't expect to find anything good for a much lower price, there is so much competition that if someone is offering something cheaper, it's usually at the cost of quality.
You could try Decathlon, I don't know how it looks in France, in Poland they weren't much cheaper than the Fjord Nansen but were bulkier and heavier. There's also Hannah and Snugpak, but Hannah is narrow (I tested one) and Snugpak at least appears narrow from the specs.

Here in Sweden its legal to camp wherever you want as long as its not in a clearly residential or industrial property or if you disturb wildlife or people. the law also states you cant break/cut living branches.

hiking near some lake in a forest in the summer is soo nice. Sun never sets or just go down a couple or hours depending on where you are.

Your yoga mat is not going to help. Get a real sleeping pad. How much they're going to isolate you from the ground is usually expressed in an R-value. Look that up. I'm using a 2,4 for summer for example.

I wrote the post you reply to, and I didn't mean to say that the first guy is "better" than the second. The second guy, however, is far more likely to run into trouble with landowners if he tries camping on restricted land.

I've been both guys (apart from hacking down saplings which is just retarded, fresh wood doesn't burn), it's just about being smart when and where you're the first or the second guy.

If you go into the woods over 800m off of any old woods road or dirt road chances are you’re not gonna ever run into anybody besides a conservation officer during a hunting season. So you’re pretty much good to go outside of any hunting season if you trek in any considerable distance. 800m at a minimum and to be honest that’s not far at all.
