I want to go backpacking in the superstitions but don't have any friends to go with. How do I go and not get molested by skinwalkers or murdered?

I used to live in Tucson. I spent a lot of time in the Superstitions. Water or lack of is your biggest threat. Also unless you are experienced hiker and have a friend with you never go off the trails. There are active springs around there so take a waterfiltration system. It would not hurt to have a pistol either but I pack one everywhere. Also a topo map and a compass. When you water is half done you are half done hiking.

Also beware of mineshafts they are all over the place. For more fun check out the youtube channel called Mysterys of the Superstitions. There is all kinds f legends beyond the Dutchman Mind and a lot of colorful characters in its history.

Your next hike should be Skull or Skeleton Cave. There is still bones of the the Apache's that were killed there in that cave.

A second thought is Syphon Canyon. It is an easy and beautiful hike and widely used. WIsh I still lived down there. I'd go with you.

Come on man. A skinwalker would have to survive on like 1500 calories a day since they have enough brain function to talk. There's nothing that's that calorie dense out in the woods, so they would have to lure humans into the woods somehow. Considering they don't have a good grasp of the human language, this would be hard to do. Then after killing the human we would have to preserve the meat somehow. That requires a lot of salt which isn't just readily available in the woods. It's just physically impossible for skinwalkers to exist out there.
