Most modern footwear is very bad at being footwear. Modern man rarely walks 10 miles a day anymore. If a SHTF happens, and people will be forced to walk long distances again, people will truly realize that the footwear they are wearing is very detrimental to them. Blisters, wet feet because of no ventilation, joint pain due to raised heels, etc etc.
The fact is, true general purpose hard term walking foot wear, I have researched and experimented with for a very long time.
I can tell you the one setup that seems to be the best general purpose beat all.
It is the leather sandal + wool socks combo.
You want flat leather sandals, and 3 layers of wool socks for different temperatures and climates. Make sure your socks are 100% wool and nice and fluffy.
Yes, your socks will get wet when it rains or walking through wet grasses. No, it doesn''t really matter. Your feet are still warm yet well ventilated. Wool is very incredible in that regard. And at the end of the day, simply undo them and dry them by the fire.
It really pays back well to invest in your feet.
Only this set up allows me to walk long term without feet getting torn up or getting cold. All other set ups make long walking miserable.
