Welcome again to the Autumn Season.
Hunters are /out/, fishing is in, and outings with a pipe are never over.
Posting a day before the world renowned Veteran’s Day (name may vary by region), let us take this day of remembrance to look towards the future.
I have visited other boards to see how their Secret Santas were doing and came across /k/-Weapons, our Father board’s, website:
https://sekretsanta.com/ Here on /out/ we do a self regulated Amazon Wishlist.
For first timers and Alzheimer’s: Anons post their amazon wishlist (ex:
https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/2XPPAQVSMI31Y?ref_=wl_share )
other anon’s choose who, and what, to buy for a gift.
Some things I personally don’t like about the Amazon Wishlist is it’s not the most intuitive of things.
(After this post, guides will be posted on how to configure your list and then configure your list to ship to you. Just because it’s your list does NOT mean it will go directly to you; a problem I had years ago.)
I have been talking to the /k/ Sekret Santa website’s admin, Big Boss, about putting together an /outdoors/ branch on the original /k/ sekret santa site so that we may use it as well.
Pros: Ease of use, pricing selection, price matching, and anti-grinching protections.
Cons: Anons are expected to put a gift together themselves using recipient guidelines, ship themselves, and there are deadlines.
The deadlines are in place to make sure everyone receives a gift on time.
Anons can place a wishlist in their description, however it is understood that if you receive a gift you don’t like, but is in the price range, then you do not qualify for grinch consolation gifts.
Since I care about this board and it’s users, I would like to see how others feel
https://strawpoll.com/zjfv22ub9 As I said, I am in talks with Big Boss and told him by Friday I will give him an answer if we are going to use his site going forward.
Love, Cajun Santa

if someone doesn’t give a gift then that person is banned for life.
of course there are ways around that, but seeing as how you are paired with someone and giving each other an address i would hope the /k/ admins would put a block on the address as it’s more difficult to spoof.

If you're worried about getting cheated then the /k/ format would be better for you.
You are on 4chan, after all
If you're worried about getting doxxed then the Amazon Wish List format is for you.
You go out to the woods where anyone can stalk you after all.

The /k/ Secret Santa 1st event went off. Got my guy assigned to me and started purchasing for him today. The website is pretty easy to use, so i'm happy with it. Big Boss discovered a bug that happened to me so it should all be running smooth from here on out! I started this thread a good bit earlier than the previous years because some guys are having a difficult time with everything that's happened this year. So they will have a longer opportunity to save up, budget, and purchase whenever.

I think it would be best to use the /k/ site and put your Amazon Wish List on there. I talked to Big Boss about it and he agrees. I also asked about making a section more tailored to /out/, dropping MilSurp and adding Fishing. Since we are born from their board, most of the stuff already applies.
Why dont we just do it with /k/? I feel more comfortable buying for another /out/ist than I do a /k/ommando.
It will ask your address. Many of the /k/ Secret Santa participants seem to enjoy sending and receiving random gifts. Perhaps the nature of their board. I know from previous years we like choosing exactly what we want and having someone else buy it. (and then hopefully returning the favor)
On Monday I'm supposed to be sitting down with Big Boss and he's going to show me how the website works. We are on opposite ends of America and our schedules dont line up so nicely. Plus he will be away for the weekend.
As i've said, I like the site because it protects against grinching, which has been a big problem for /out/.
But the low turnout of participants this year makes me think no one here is interested.

What happens if I'm terrible at picking gifts for my wishlist?

“These are handled on a case by case basis. If you get a gift that is clearly, self-evidently a low effort or troll gift, we'll count that as getting grinched. On the other hand, simply disliking what you received is not sufficient.”

just find something you’ve wanted to buy for a while or some upgrade. try find a few items in increments of 15$ but don’t expect anything over 60$, but feel free to be hopeful. we have some generous anons.
as long as it fits the /out/ bill you’ll be ok.

>>1928532 >https://sekretsanta.com/ Done the /k/ swap and loved it. I think doing it this way is way more fun because it's not spending Bezos Bux™ so there's incentive to give more expensive shit that you already have. This year I'm gonna make an extra patagonia sweater to give away plus some gear I don't use, and it's that autism that distinguishes it from a plebbit-teir neet xmas. Also this board does pretty well w/o online spending (eg out patch guy vs kommando store). Either way I can't wait to get ghosted for the third year in a row

why dont i post mine? my gift hasnt been sent yet. but i'm not worried, my guy has until the 21st before i'm considered grinched.

Alright Men and FBI Agents,
I have just finished a call with Big Boss, the aforementioned creator of
sekretsanta.com .
We are working together to get a portion of his site set up for /out/ and related activities, same domain but just a link for us.
I would appreciate any input using the current batch as a reference. I had my own which he was receptive to, so feel free to give us some feedback.
Note: You will have the option to place an amazon wish list on your Detailed List section. If there is enough interested perhaps I will make an option to match Amazons to Amazons.
This week I will be doing some dry runs on the site to figure out how everything works and finding any bugs. In that time I will be attempting to secure some /out/ patches to be given out for raffles which you will learn more about when you go to sign up.
I will have a thorough understanding of the site soon.
The /out/ Sekret Santa website is expected to go live on the 26th.
I hope to see you all there. Start scouting!

As much as I hate amazon the old concept was better. And OP kind of acts like a newfag tryharding to fit in. Anyways, I used this as inspiration for irl christmas gifts in the last years and now there are no amazon wishlists to scroll through. What do anons? What should I give to my irl /out/ frens?

>>1931582 There's an interest. I'm doing the se/k/ret Santa for the first time and the moment I saw the idea of a secret Santa, I just wanted to know if we had one here. I know /k/ tends to be a lot more fun oriented with their culture and a hell of a lot of people on this board are cynical and quite aggressive whenever somebody says something but we can still be kind. I just would've liked a secret Santa on here because at the end of the day, as much as I like milsurp, I am really not much of a weapons guy because I'm a britbong and it's quite hard to own firearms here. However, I love camping, hiking and climbing to no end. Yeah, we're a slower board but that just means we have less tiers and less events to make matching easier.
Anonymous
>>1939081 >fun oriented >literal cum brownies Anonymous
>>1939333 They're a hell of a lot more cheerful about shit on there than us though. After the cum brownies everyone just ripped the piss out of other people. If that happened at an /out/ meetup someone would probably call the police and say some dirty hammock LARPer tried to rape them last night and cause a whole scene. Meanwhile at /k/ the biggest fallout I ever saw, which was like two fat spergs complaining, was when somebody threw ammo in a fire and even then it was funny. Most people on this board really do have a gigantic fucking stick up their ass though. It's just like "oh you disagree? LARP!" and nobody gives a fuck about being encouraging or giving advice.
Anonymous
Anonymous
>>1939443 man that is all true but we get way more larpers and people that will never actually go out they keep wanting us to spoonfeed them shit and its just tiring at this point
maybe what we need is a compilation of advices to most out related hobbies like in /fit/ or /t/ that should at least keep the faggots out and still satisfied
back in k there in no larping or stupid empty promises to yourself, people just go and buy the damned thing

I'm the Anon who ran the spreadsheet for the 2018 and 2019 Secret Santas; seems like its a bit different this year and my services won't be required. I just wanted to say thanks to the Swiss anon who bought me an emergency blanket and a couple backpack cargo straps. The thread went down last year before I could say thanks but I've been packing the blanket with me on all my trips and the straps have seen some good use. Hope you're doing well
