did anybody get unironically jealous of brian in the brian saga by gary paulsen? it felt so liberating as a kid to be in the outdoors not held back by things modern life burdens us with.

I vividly remember him getting horrible diarrhea after eating rotten meat or poison berries or something. That is all I remember of that book but I really liked it

hatchet and brian's winter was awful, but when he returned to the wilderness like in brian's hunt and such he was way more prepared and it was pretty cool.

I was just thinking of making a thread about this book. I read it young and it sparked a desire in me to learn to be somewhat self sufficient with only minimal tools. I've yet to ever do so but now I own a house with a tiny bit of wooded area. I may go out and learn bushcraft soon. This book and it's sequels are fantastic.

OK, I read the synopsis of this, and it genuinely sounds like something they'd make me read at school when I was 12-13.
Is this correct?
How does it compare to Jon Krakauer or Joe Simpsons's books? (Simpson's are basically a diary of epic failures, but a good read.)

Fair call. Is it still a good book, like Watership Down or Charlotte's Web?

*All my mates and I are ex/guides. He's already kayaking 2+/easy 3, can pitch a tent, and light a fire. Briefly had a .22 air rifle, but can't stop pointing it in bad directions. Target shoots at local club, has a 25lb compound bow, hasn't killed me yet.
