There are three weather stations. Crook Creek (10,150 ft), Barcroft (12,475 ft) and the summit (14,250). Crooked Creek is having problems with power (solar charger isn't working), so it'll be offline till May of next year. Barcroft got an upgrade for weather and currently is still working (it was a crispy -9 °F a few days ago). The summit weather station was mounted on a 3" pole. It detached from the roof and suffered from "blunt force" trauma back in the winter of 2019-2020. With winds of 160+ mph, these things happen.
I've been a fan of the mountain for at least 40 years; actually knew a guy who use to fly helicopters up to the summit when I was in college (he was a test pilot--later saw him on 60 Minutes). Five years ago, I helped upgrade their wireless backhaul from a measly 2.4 GHz 500 kilobit to a 5 GHz 50 megabit link. It makes for some bragging rights--it's the highest one of it's type in the lower 48 (AFAIK)
White Mountain Research Center which oversees the research labs is in hibernation mode now because they loss a lot of income because of Covid which came from the clients who use the facility for education, science, and some military/commercial use.
