I find ALL wool to be unwearable. It is ALL scratchy and itchy, even the finest merino and cashmere. Cotton is much more comfy all you need to do is bring a change of clothes if ur getting wet.

I've never worn a wool garment that didn't make me uncomfortable. It isn't worth the pain.

I am NOT allergic to wool.

wool is great and is mostly what I use. Plastic do have some advantages in being a bit lighter and drying faster. Over all though I like wool best and it is natural. Plastic clothes (fleece) gives off tiny plastic dust in your home that you breath in and your body is not able to break it down and get rid of it. Go natural whenever you can. Another benefit with wool is that it handle sparks from the fire with no problem what so ever. No melting holes. It is also anti bacterial and anti smell

It is common to let babies sleep in their stroller outside even in winter. It is pretty much always wool from early childhood so maybe it is just a matter of getting used to it. Even the coarse wool thick jumpers are made of I don't find itchy directly on the skin. If it really is a problem for you, then maybe plastic is best for you. We are all different after all

This anon knows. I bought the fishermen’s sweater or whatever the fuck it’s called from LL Bean and have worn it on almost every outing I’ve been on in the colder months, it never smells and is the perfect layer to have under a light rain shell of some kind. I usually pair it with a merino base and a north face rain shell I got at a thrift store and I’m comfy in everything from early fall to dead winter.

Heavy woolen sweater has been my go-to clothing piece for quite some time now for autumn-spring. Heavy as shit, but I've endured very cold winters with it with only 3-4 layers. Technical undergarment, thin shirt, heavy woolen sweater and thin jacket. Doable down to around -20-25C. Don't know the brand or if it's homemade or stuff. Weighs maybe 1,5kg. Never has let me down. Sure, it itches a little but I can live with that. Better itchy than hypothermia.

Merino for the following: Base layer beanie, neck gaiter, long sleeve, merino glove liner, 3/4 tights, knee high sock liner. Put it under anything and it will do good job. Obviously a heavier/ticker base layer in colder temps and thinner/lighter in cool weather. Other than knit wool sweater, socks, toque i wouldn't waste your time. Wool coats, wool pants are fine I guess but they are never worth the cost

I don’t know what this numbers mean or where they’re from (wtf kind of unit is clo/oz? The even more retard brother of floz? ;^) ), but I’m inclined to believe the ranking.
However, it seems to me like this is the pure insulation material, so for most stuff (apart from whool) you have to add a shell and some lining, which changes stuff a bit, especially when you want to compete with heavy wool which also has quite a bit of wind and water resistance.
For me, both have their place. Wool as an Allrounder (that has replaced almost all of my fleeces, because micro plastics, and I’m looking into replacing my soft shell too) and down or prinaloft as lightweight and really warm insulation.

At first it was really scratchy but you get used to it and it doesn't bother me as much. The wool socks are incredible, I wear just the wool socks with my chippewa boots and my feet never get cold (winters around here get down to -10 but usually it's in the 20s). My hats are all extremely warm. Wool is good.

Wool is an acquired taste. I am a big fan of wool overcoats, but I've recently begun getting a couple jackets. I have five wool overcoats, and three jackets. It's heavy, but it's a dead silent material, and it lasts forever, is easy to clean, and yes, of course, is warm. It doesn't stop wind, so wear a thin wind stopping layer beneath any wool overcoats you get, unless it's lined with something. Expect itchiness for a while, but you will get used to it. Also expect a noticeable musk from wet wool, especially surplus. It will keep you warm when wet, but don't think it's a magic material, it is always better dry. Wool is best combined with other, lighter materials, like cotton or nomex, (yes, nomex). Wool also stops people from wanting to steal your shit, because they fear the scratchiness. Get your wool stuff second hand, it's cheaper that way. Don't pay more than 80 bucks for like, any wool item. Now you are woolpilled, Cheers.
