If I were 10 miles out in the middle of nowhere off a trail and I was 100% certain it was biodegradable (e.g. a banana), yea I’d bury it. If I were on a casual trail that normies use though, no I would carry it out.

I’d be upset if I saw a random banana peel on the ground (an artifact of human meddling) in the middle of a forest, so I wouldn’t want to reciprocate that feeling to somebody else trying to appreciate the beauty of nature.

Where is the problem if it takes up to two years?
It may look ugly but even if it takes 1-2 years to decay - does it make them bad for the environment? Do animals eat them and get sick?
Obviously people may think that it looks ugly and that it is litter but is it justified?
Surprisingly I didn't see 'banana peel litter' in SEA where lots of Bananas grow and are eaten - obviously plastics and trash are a problem. The peels decay probably much faster.

It depends on the traffic of people and volume of litter, degradable or not. If on any given weekend a dozen people throw out bananas without burying, well even after 2 years you’ll still have close to 550 bananas still sitting around the area.

I get annoyed when people harp about a banana peel, making everyone feel guilty. Meanwhile they aren't tossing molotov cocktails on Chinese whaling boats or assassinating Big Oil CEOs.
