Whatever knife you have in your hand is better than no knife, the main difference will be whether you have something that is stabby, slashy or choppy, but in either case you want something with at least six inches of blade length to get the job done easier.
Most of the camp knives at 6 inches or bigger will satisfy those requirements and still serve you as a tool for food prep and light wood prep.
