Howdy, /out/

Has anyone here been to Tillamook bay, Oregon? It seems like a fisher's dream: Rivers nearby for trout and crawdaddies, a bay for dungeness and cockles, and the open ocean not an hour's ride by boat away. Is this too good to be true, or should I be coming home, white man?

Having lived in Oregon for 22 years I can say that anywhere on the coast is cool but Tillamook is not my favorite. I grew up in Newport and live in reedsport now. The Umpqua river is the best fishing on the west coast, and I live 3 minutes from the mouth.
If I had to pick a place for /out/ness it'd probably be reedsport.
That said Oregon is best state followed by Washington followed by Wyoming.

contiguous us. Hawaiian Native here mount Waialelale gets an average of 460 inches a year and most of the hilo side of the big island sits around 200. Even mountain view is up in the 170s Kona side and Oahu are both sparse though and thats where the most people are

I go to University of Oregon and I would love to do some outdoors related things. So far I have only done limited climbing shooting off throating and backpacking. Hell you're only an hour and a half drive from me.
Fish the Mckenzie, it's right in Eugene. Idk if you fly fish, but the caddis fly shop on w 6th is a good place to get info on what to be using locally.

Anyway if you feel like driving to winchester bay, bring a heavier rod and a #6 spinner and throw it repeatedly into the bay and you will eventually get a salmon.

I just graduate from OSU, and my 4 years there involved lots of touring cycling around western Oregon (and beyond).

Around Eugene, the Smith River and NF-19 (by Cougar reservoir). They go through BLM land and Willamette National Forest, so free camping wherever you like. I think there are hiking trails off of NF-19 too.

The Pacific Northwest has:
-Loads of public land for /out/ings
-A wide variety of landscapes (oceans, valleys, mountains, deserts)
-Mild climates
-High-tier people. Yes, there are hipsters concentrated in the cities. Outside of the cities (which you can actually get to, because there aren't sprawling metropolitan monstrosities) there's a nice mix of political and religious views. Additionally, people don't rush around and treat you like shit like on the east coast, nor are they quite as slow as Californians.

Some of this is true and some of it is misleading. While there are no enormous cities, there seems to be just one huge sort-of city sprawling all the way from Bellingham to Portland. Most of Oregon is a bit different, as is the Olympic Peninsula in Washington and the east of the Cascades.

Additionally, I wouldn't describe the people as particularly "high-tier." There can certainly be close-minded views here, ESPECIALLY outside of the cities. Additionally, beyond Seattle, the population is overwhelmingly white and Christian or not religion, I guess. There is low diversity in the PNW. That became apparent to me when I moved elsewhere.

But with that said, this is one of the most beautiful and geographically diverse areas in the country, and I feel very fortunate to have grown up here. It is definitely a wonderful place to live.
