It's just a wooly bugger on a jig hook with a bunch of ice dub in it. My mainline was #20 mono for 10-12 feet, micro swivel, then #14 mono for however long I needed. I had 5 feet of it to an inline spinner for doodlestocking but only about 2 feet when I hooked that steehead because I wanted a shorter, more manageable line.

it will be hard. depends how shallow the water is I suppose. even if you use the proper winter lure method for pike (an extremely slow lure worked close to the bottom) it's still difficult

I'm convinced the only people who don't like fish have either never had it fresh, or only had it overcooked. My father in law is one of those steak and taters boomers who never ate fish, but i cooked some freshly caught yellowtail for him once and he was surprised that he liked it.

Depends on the fish, the more oily the fish the shorter it lasts in the freezer. When I catch tuna it's good for a month max if cared for properly, yellowtail is in the middle and can last 3 months or so and I've had rockfish and other mild, white, flakey stuff still be good after more than 6 months. The trick is to cut all the dark meat out, pat and dry it completely and get all the air out of the bag. Make sure it was bled properly too.

This is a very small creek in the Lehigh valley no connection to Lake Erie. I'm not sure if they put tiger trout in it but the patterns are very unusual

Those are dece, I also have good luck with 03 and 04 size ripping raps, Swedish Pimples, eye spoons (especially for jigging minnow heads), and various small jigs, but nothing produces like live minnows on bare hooks, desu.

It's for the boat, in the woods you can just squat behind a tree or whatever, but in the boat, you're almost always within view of homes on shore, so I don't demand that she hang ass off the gunwale.

This is one of my favourite lures. The colour doesn't matter, what's important is the massive ball bearings inside that knocks and wakes up every pike for the next mile. They will attack it from below. I have the hot sardine (the finish is NOT a pale grey like you see in pictures, it's more of a sheeny flourescent grey, very very pretty)

They're cheap too,i would get the sinking one and cast out, wait 1 or 2 seconds then slow retrieve. It's winter now so pike are low in the water and very slow and sluggish

That's not how buying commodity parts works for a manufacturer. Unless they own their own bearing foundry, they've got standing orders with several suppliers for bearings that fit a given spec and they buy whatever's available in their spec for the lowest price. The parts bin for this bearing probably has bearings from a dozen OEMs.

Caught a beautiful male Brown trout today on this suspending crank. I got it from a boomer on Craigslist over the summer. It's a mister twister "sportfisher" (?). It's covered in weird glue stains or something that make it look supppppper realistic. Much more realistic than any other lure I have....

Can anyone find this online so I can buy a few extra? The action is amazing. Dives about 5'.

The jap way yields more meat from smaller fish in my experience. Take the whole head and collar off along with the guts and cut the ribcage off along with the fillets and then trim the rib bones off the fillets afterwards.

Most fish relate much more to bottom than a particular depth from surface. I get way more action on drop shot, plus I'm feeling for bites amongst the bottom structure. Much more involved than mindlessly casting/retrieving.

Cheb rig is the best perch method IMO because it gives you such a direct tactile contact with the line while still giving the lure fantastic freedom of movement. I have tried dropshooting and carolina/Texan bullet styles too and they all felt too floaty and uncontrolled.

I was actually fishing pic related today and had 5 pike in a few hours, although only 2 were good sized.

I got myself 1200m of 0.16mm 4-brais for £20, a selection of hooks and a Shimano Sahara SH-4000FI XG which was a steal at £50.

It's a cute little reel, all my 6-8000 size reels are just too clunky for my spinning rods.

The rod blank usually has a spine and is meant to bend a certain way. Whenever I go on a sport boat I always walk around the boat on the ride out to see how how many conventionals/spinners are on the wrong type of rod, usually a pretty good barometer of how many tangles I'm going to be subjected to if I fish bait that day. One time I saw a $400 tranx on a little $15 store wrapped spinning rod.

Just get a cheap 1 piece Ugly Stik GX2. Fish don't care what rod you have. All that matters is that it won't break when you cast the wrong way with the wrong lure, or hook a fish that's way too big for your rod.

I've had people who fished avidly their whole lives pull that one, because they wanted a particular length/weight rod with a particular reel and that's what they had. This honestly looks like a blast, I love dink fishing, and having not even seen this before finding this video its something I've done on numerous occasions. I have super sensitive rods I use to catch dink perch and I have a blast every time, even as catch and release I'd rather be fishing than home watching tv.

I used a 50lb mono leader for pike all year, caught dozens around and over 5lbs just fine, which may be on the small side depending where you're fishing but I never had a problem. I'm going to stick with it because it's so easy and cheap to tie it myself. I'll get a lifetime of leaders off my 6$ roll of Berkley big game.

What kind of fishing would you normally do?

Perch and pike are a lot of fun and are quite cheap. You basically need rod - reel - net - 15lb braid line - small packet of wire leaders - small box of 4 or 5 lures - forceps for unhooking pike if you catch one.

lures, I would go to your local tackle shop and see what the guys in there would suggest, I would say a mepps spinner, a soft shad, a small crank bait, lures in the 3cm-8cm range

I imagine every perch water you would fish in would also have pike, pike have sharp teeth and will snap off your lure which will possibly kill the pike (can't unhook itself, starves) so a wire leader is a good idea, they are very cheap

Some mojo ice rods, a baitcasting rod in the granite grey color, an Eyecon spinning combo and another spinning rod. I broke a 13 fishing Omen and a Cadence CR7 this year, so I'm replacing those, and adding a couple to the fleet.

A couple threads ago someone was down talking taking water temp as some useless nerd shit. I have a great example from the other day how it actually matters. I was fishing the same creek in different locations. One area fishing was extremely slow with some species completely shut down. Another area was still on fire getting hook ups every couple casts. Was the difference my lures ? Depth ? Color ? Bait ? Action ? Speed ? No to all. One section of the creek was down stream from a small dam from a lake with little current. As a result the water in that area was in the 50's F in comparison to other section of the creek which ran with moderate current over riffles and typical features cooling the water into a balmy 40's F.

For those curious this type of fishing is called mebaring and I got a setup with rod and reel, line and box of tiny tackle for about $250 including shipping from japan. Not crazy expensive if you aren't a poorfag. I used it to catch >>1948366 as well as mini halibut, mackerel and bass in the bays. It's really fun when you already have plenty of meat in the freezer.

Should I get a medium or medium-heavy rod if I want to use hard swimbaits up to 1oz max? I lean towards a medium and 2500 reel so that I can also throw much lighter stuff and it's better suited for panfish too... but I can't help but think that a medium-heavy and 4000 reel will be better suited for those 1oz hard swimbaits, and it would also be better for some light saltwater duty if I ever wanted to. 1oz is the absolute biggest hard swimbait I own, and can't imagine buying anything bigger.

idea line for dropshotting is probably a 7lb fluorocarbon leader and a 15lb braid mainline, this is assuming of course that the waters you are fishing do not contain pike, which require thick 100lb flouro or trace wire leaders, I don't believe those work with dropshot ting but you are welcome to investigate

sorry dude but you just have to use a pike leader, there's no way around it, 10-20lb pike will absolutely chase and eat 4cm lures and if they snap them off, that's a chance of death, punctured stomach, blocked throat, mouth jammed open, last week a large dead pike was found at a local river, dead because it bit off a lure with a treble that essentially sewed the pike's mouth shut

most people will target perch and use a pike leader, I'm not sure I see what the problem is.

I've caught 8 lb pike on 1/16th oz crankbaits while targeting panfish. You don't need 100 lb fluoro though, I seldom lose lures and I mostly use 17 lb fluoro leaders or lighter when I'm not actively pike fishing. The morbidity increase between using a 15-20 lb leader and a 100 lb leader is minimal.
