The idea of waging my entire life makes me severely depressed to the point where I want to kys. I am in a good program and all, good employment, have decent brain but I cant do this another 40 years. I have enough money for a Mercedes Sprinter. I want to convert it, live in it and just take it easy surviving primitively and exploring Europe and beyond world with my dog.

How long do you think I can live in one before waging seems the better alternative?

Van life is genuinely roughing it, no matter how nice your sprinter is. It isn’t all instagram shots and influencer women anon, it’s cold and lonely and mildly depressing on most days. Lots of bumming around in town. Think about it for a while before you make a decision

I've done a lot of field work in my day, and still do. Whenever I'm busy with office drudgery I hate it and long for the freedom of being in the field. But then when I'm in the field, after a month or so of long grueling days and hard work I wish I were in a nice, air conditioned office, living the easy life of socialization and leisure. The grass is always greener and all that.

you will never live a good vanlife without the security that you can buy food, fuel or service anytime without worry. you need to exchange your service to someone for them to give an equal service in return. money just give you the option to give service one place and have it returned another place, or just save it up.

This. Vanlife has it's advantages but the vast majority of what you see is some fantasy storytelling romanticized notion of freedom and travel that only exists on the internet. In real life it is not nearly as glamorous. Lots of stress and idle time

have you considered working at national parks? When i visit yosemite they have a bunch of people who work the season. They seem genuinely happy also i see nearby hotels that look for workers as well and pay with free room and board.

It's not fair that they were given good jobs so they could get free houses. working isn't too bad at all as long as you like the people you work with. If you don't like your co-workers, it's like living in hell. The secret is to take full advantage of your days off and vacation time. Working 250 days a year and then sitting around the house on your 115 days off makes it seem like all you do is work. So get out twice a month or more and you'll still be enjoying life, but you can actually afford the shit you want too.

Personally, I think you're going about chasing your freedom in a largely ineffective way. If you really want to escape the chains of society, you need to just focus on investing and your financial life.

Set up a low cost, sustainable lifestyle (and as others have said, van life is not long-term), then start building your investment / passive income stream and you'll get there. It took me 8 years before all of my bills were paid from sources other than my job. It can be done.

I think you'll get sick of it pretty quick. But i'm in the same boat, where I hate the idea of wage slaving. I was able to lay low for a few months now, while I figure out what to do.

I ended up buying a piece of property, and I plan on drafting out, and getting a build permit. I'm doing as much of the work myself without outside help.

This keeps me working, and the work is for myself, and my self-reliance. This, I think, is important to 'my' growth. I hope you find what you're looking for.
