I moved to SoCal about a year and a half ago and they are pretty common out here where a lot of the land is desert and its just rocks errywhere you go.

I must have kicked a dozen useless cairns on this local trail earlier today. I also picked up some rocks, one by one, and threw them at nearby trees in anger. What kind of egocentric prick/bitch decides to stack rocks on a trail that's so fucking OBVIOUS - even this time of year with leaves on the ground? They even stacked their fucking rocks right in front of a goddamn trail marker! Fucking newbie Instagram/Reddit/Facebook/Alltrails hikers are ruining the whole goddamn scene. I was originally planning to hike a longer trail in addition to the one I hiked, but was so upset I just went straight home in order to regain my composure. honestly if only the trees were marked then someone probably put up a cairn to mark where they left the trail so when they come back they wont walk right through. There could have been a less noticeable trail intersection. How often were the trees marked with plastic?

mustve been hiking in or close city limits honestly. I've never seen that many before lol. I've frequently hiked Colorado, Whyoming, South Dakota, Louisiana and never seen that may cairns and i usually try to hike for atleast 12 miles. I guess that's why i don't understand the hate because where i hike the kind of people out there mostly use for practical purposes. Normies don't typically travel to secluded areas to do long hikes.
