My sailing experience consists of holding a tarp up in a canoe. Sailing immensely interests me, though. I plan to attempt building an elegant punt soon (I'm a /diy/ke) and hopefully learn from people I know.

I think as a kid I learned more about sailing from these books than I ever did at sailing camp, the series is actually a pretty good introduction to theory and seamanship.

Classes can be good if you have nowhere to keep a boat because you get a lot of boat time and hopefully learn properly while you do it. There are also sailing clubs that you can join and sail their boats.

I sail in the river across from my house. My dad taught me as a teenager, but you can buy a boat like a sunfish off Craigslist for a few hundred dollars and learn the basics by yourself.
