I hope this isn't the wrong place for this, but I want to get into stargazing. Any advice for what to look for, where to go, instructional charts/videos/books, best time to go out, etc.?

I live in a little suburban town south of Boston, but I'm willing to drive an hour or so to get away from light pollution (I know an hour won't bring me anywhere crazy good, but I'm just looking to get into it as a hobby).
