>>1952434>Do you get into these accidents just because rocks/human judgement/ inclement weather fucking you up?Not who you're replying to, but I trail ride a YZ250F.
All accidents I've had have been due to getting super enthusiastic and eating shit for a variety of reasons. Hitting deep puddles, wet stony surfaces, deep sand unexpectedly are prime causes. Also if there's an exposed root in line with your direction of travel it can easily put you off.
I always wear full kit. Funny my worst injuries have all been low-mid speed.
1. Going little more than twice running speed, hit sand on a corner, over the bars onto rocks. Concussion, broken hip, couple of ribs, internal bleeding.
2. Going about ½ speed, approx. 55kph. Wet stones, lost front wheel. (To be fair this was jeans and a t-shirt, but would have made no difference.) Broke both arms and a few ribs.
3. Absolute flat out. Hit a deep puddle around a corner on a paddock. Low sided, bike cartwheeled for miles and I slid behind it in a cloud of mud and water. Zero injuries, not even a decent bruise. Was pretty spectacular I'm told.
You're going to crash. Dress appropriately.
Also get at MINIMUM a 250F. Anything else is boring and you'll regret it sooner than later.
A 125 2-stroke can be fun, but you need to ride it more aggressively to get the power out of it which isn't the easiest if you're learning. KLX300 is a good trail bike. You really want a wide ratio gearbox and electric start for trail riding.
Mine's a race bike so 1st gear is too high for technical stuff and 5th too low for open stuff.
