Section 318 of the criminal code is promoting genocide but 319 includes "promoting hatred" which doesn't have to go so far as genocide. Many of the cases brought to court are pretty outlandish so not too much to worry about, but Canada already has the precedent that truth isnt a reasonable defence of hate speech (this was decided in Saskatchewan v Whatcott)
On top of that, CSIS has and will investigate people for "hate speech" even when they come NOWHERE close to the legal limits of the law.
