Two experiences I remember:
First was one time I was fishing and a Blue Heron snagged a small bass, and a Great Egret was trying to steal it. For like 10min, the egret would grab it, the heron would grab back, the fish would slip out, they would go diving into the water after the fish. Finally one of them flew away with the damn fish.
The second one, I was fishing just after sunset at this lake from shore. It’s at a public park and was nearly pitch black and all of a sudden I hear something come at me. A big heron came flying from across the lake and landed nearly within arms reach, right next to me in the grass. I guess he was really comfortable with people from a busy park and stood next to me waiting for me to pull in a fish. I got freaked the fuck out because I couldn’t see the bird flying at all and it came flapping its wings a couple feet from me in the pitch black.
