also get a fucking snorkel + good fins, I saw several 8ft? mantas when I was swimming only a few hundred yards offshore
don't get close to rocks, I got caught by a wave and sunk like 12 sea urchin spines into my heel and snapped off a couple of tips, had to have my uncle dig out with a pair of pliers we had on hand, not fun
the weather is great year round, and there's free food everywhere so there's a large homeless population, but they're friendly so I wouldn't sweat it
black sands beach is also really cool, watch for the cliffs to make sure shit doesn't fall on you
one last thing: sunscreen. use it. it will make your trip go so much better if you aren't toasted all the time
