how difficult is it to start hiking if i am fat?

are there easier hiking trails I can go on in or around NYC that I can use to get used to it?

Pick trails with minimal elevation gain to start, and find what range of distance and elevation gain is comfortable for your body. I suggest poking around Alltrails to find such a suitable trail.

Fat is a spectrum. Only you know your body.

Like probably less than 500 elevation gain and shorter than 5 miles, is a start, but again, depends entirely on your body and fitness capacity.

Start small, slowly work your way up.

I would hike flat trails in moderation until I lost weight. You really don't want to ruin your knees and it is way more fun to hike when you are in shape so lose the weight as fast as you can manage and then enjoy being light as you climb mountains. Also, start fasting.
