>>1960200In really low light conditions gen 1 and 1.5 require an IR illuminator, if you are using a rifle scope you may as well be wearing a yellow flashing light for a countersniper with better technology. Gen 2 and 3 are definitely a step above and don't require an IR emitter. White phosphorus, thermal and forward looking infrared in diffrent combinations are splinter cell tier shit, but most of us can't afford this. As for walking around in the woods with night vision on, I don't know, if I look through NV for any extended period of time while stationary I start to get sick, maybe you can get used to it. There is also the loss of depth perception that another anon mentioned.
