Since we had all kinds of threads regarding different outdoor tools I thought I would make one about Flashlights.

Picture is related, LED Lenser P5, small as hell and gives you a lot of light for at least 70 meters. Not my only one but the one I always have on me.

What do you guys use?

The cheap $2 LED torch from a supermarket.

When that breaks, I get another $2 LED from a supermarket. I usually carry 3 with me then camping. Paying LOLBIGMONIES for a BRAND torch is fucking stupid. They're too easily lost.

I started out using 18650s in my PD31, but the charger broke so I started using CR123s. I should probably buy some more 18650s, but the 123s really aren't that expensive.

For urban exploring I use a Lenser P7, pretty much perfect for it, as well as general use. I also carry an 1800lm cree torch that runs on 18650s, a cree Q5 that stays in my coat pocket wherever I go, and a 1600lm head torch which is mainly for cycling.

Pic related, the P7 and a 30 second exposure in a tunnel that was bloody hard to light.

i compare specs on everything, i compare the run-times, i read reviews, i watch youtube vids, i decide to myself, do i want the light that runs for longer, has a better beam, is waterproof etc. BUT costs more, or do i want the cheap plastic shit that I know will break because I have owned plastic stuff in the past and it has broken, I choose on this occasion to buy what I perceive is a quality item and I have not had buyers remorse, even if i admit i have not used it that much, there's plenty of shit you have bought in your life that i would laugh at, you won't admit to any of it, but it'll still be there in the back of your mind

Bought one of these 6 years ago. I dont have to carry around most of my stuff, so the weight doesnt affect me that much.

Its great for playing games with my scout kids. And very usefull for when one of them gets scared in the dark and all that. The beam carries quite long.

I use a Maglite solitaire for small tasks, such as looking through pack.
And a JetBeam BC10 for lighting up large areas, or for illuminating things over a distance, 270 lumens.

Not to mention the LED Lenser PTF and LED Lenser headtorch i have too. I wouldn't mind as there are better torches out there, but i just like the build quality and aesthetics of them. Probably need to stop fuckin buying them though.

It really irks me that there are very few L-angle lights being made.
Took a cheap one out to camp for a couple days and it was so handy, but it totally crapped out on me after I dropped it in water. I wish more manufacturers would put some attention on them.

Those headlamps are great for 10 bucks, considering the batteries last forever, but after 3 months mine started turning off whenever it was subjected to the slightest jolt, which made doing pretty much anything impossible.

I got some cheap lights from costco. They say techlite on them. Not sure what that means.

They're pretty neato, light up like a spotlight if you put nice batteries in them. I use them for biking and coaching on the water in the morning. Light up buoys really well when the headlamp can't.

As for my preferred flashlight, I love me a princeton tec apex pro. Wonderful for caving, and also awsome for most other applications. Just a bit on t he bulky side, but the battery life is glorious.
