One on the traditional ways of set up is digging a box trench to lower the floor of tent.
I'm sure it also would have lowered the chance of gunfire or surface explosions hitting you as you sleep or rest on level ground surface.
A trench is always good depending on how much time you have to improve your camp site.
Of course let nature do some of the work for you. A natural dip or seasonal water cut( learn how to read the ground and you will see how high rainstorm will flood.
