People seem to answer you based on the practice of "alpine ski touring", which is a completely different beast, requiring highly specialized gear and extensive off-piste and downhill skiing knowledge, not to mention great knowledge of avalanche safety and avalanche rescue procedures.
By the way, if you snowshoe in alpine backcountry terrain, you should also care about avalanche safety.
