CB's shit IMO. Good for some applications though (big-rig long haul trucking, maybe jeeping, but there you're probably still better off with a blister-pack FRS).

Emcomm channels, monitoring flood conditions last night. Pulled the radio out of my truck since i'm selling the pickup soon, hooked it up in the house for a while.

The cb is kind of like the 4chan of the radio world. Uncensored. I like it that way too. That's why I got my ticket and a ham radio, but I still listen to CB because it's just fun to hoon around sometimes.

Also, lots of jeep clubs require you to use CB on the trail. FRS blister packs are really the shit tier radio if we're going to rate services here.

Got this little jewel at Goodwill for $6.06

it works great and broadcasts much farther than I would've believed

plugs into the cigarette lighter, antenna has a magnetic base

when closed, the case measures 8" X 6" X 1.75"

I will admit CB is what got me into amateur radio. Still have (most of) an old Radio Shack CB laying around here somewhere, gutted it for parts for other radios though. But now that I've got a couple of nice VHF/UHF rigs, CB is child's play.

Tonnes of people use them over here. We have two CB bands but most people use the UHF band on 477Mhz 5watts FM.

The other band is the same as the USA band but its not used that much any more.

except that it's FM and not AM.

It's a shame that nobody uses it anymore, because 'this side o the pond' we absolutely LOVE getting ukfm skip.

Although uhf obviously is the better choice if you actually want to have reliable local comms.

A lot of the 4wders put them there because they can see what they are going to hit with them plus they fit under the shed roof. They would be far better up on the roof for sure.

I do a fair bit of offroading, so I have 2 antennas that are on a quick disconnect system.

102' whip for dx/road trips, and a 3' firestik for offroading. Both are on a spring and a breedlove ball mount with quick disconnect.

the spring is key man, always run a spring.

(except that my 144/440mhz antenna is roof mounted and I can't use a spring, so I just take it off when I'm going offroad.)
