you'll spend anywhere from a night to three days in jail, go before a judge, plead guilty, tell some sap story about how you're so sorry and you'll never do it again
the two times i got caught were less than $200 each but some states go up into the thousands (rarely unless you're an absolute cretin), judges usually look at railroad trespass like an absolute joke unless you were armed or damaged/defaced something
however, a handful of states (and Union Pacific) will do their damned best to send you to jail for riding, so you'll want to plan carefully to either bail before big yards or pick a line that goes through states where it's only a fine for riding (example: texas, where they only charge up to $500 but won't send you to jail)
here in missouri the law is muddy, they could send me to jail or charge me up to 2k but they charged me $200 instead and told me to fuck off, that was 8 years ago though so alot has probably changed
