Hey /out/, what do use to cook and eat on your trips?
Not cooking so far, eating sandwiches and quick food but I bought a gas stove and was looking for handy pans/plate/thing to cook and eat with. Pic related seems nice (M34 from ww2 German army).
I've seen NATO has the dragon system, is it good?
Anyway, please share what you use and discuss pros and cons of each system!

I always go back to my stainless steel pot. Bought it in 2004. It’s just the one pot, wide enough for frying and tap enough for boiling. I can keep the stove and towels inside of it, just keep it simple.

stove is a little heavy for backpacking but perfect for canoe camping. Runs on any liquid fuel. But I still bring the big 2 burner 1950s coleman for car camping.
cookset is pretty decent and not that heavy for cheap shit. It's Snow Peak, I guess they make the same thing in titanium now. Got it at MEC before they went broke.
want to get some new cups with the foldie handles and maybe something insulated for the mornings coffee

The snow peak cook set seems great, do you use everything? I would probably be fine with a small pan and a big cup, enough to cook eggs, instant noodles, and the occasional ham or pancakes.

on our car camping trips we have been known to cut down 3-4 trees. gotta wait a year for them to dry out though, you need a 4x4 to get in where we go so they are usually still there.

full society collapse is unlikely in North America outside of full nuclear war (do you want to survive that?).

small SHFT is worth being prepared for depending on and appropriate to your area. West coast earthquakes are likely, forest fire, tornado or hurricanes are real, north east has had power outages from ice storms.
Being ready to bug out or shelter in place with a 2 week supply is just a good idea.
a lot of camping gear can double for that

OP, a lot of milsurp is aluminum (not the worst but not so great to be cooking in). God knows about the paint. The reproduction stuff is going to be Chinesium ally, which I wouldn't recommend cooking with.

Nah, not dehydrating my own shit, that sounds like it needs expensive equipment, and I'm trying to spend less money. I was thinking like noodles or stew or something, which you can probably cook with a jetboil. if it's white gas it it might not be that bad. it is the additives that fowl gasoline and diesel, white gas is pretty much gasoline without additives.

first thing I'd try is put some fresh fuel in and let it sit for a few hours or over night, flush the fuel out and put some more new stuff in and try to light it up.
they dont run smooth till they heat up (spend some time on youtube if you haven't used this type of stove before), but if it doesn't run right after it's heated up then you can either run it dry and hope it clears itself, or take it apart and clean the bits.

once it has built up pressure in the tank you don't need to kep pumping them like coleman stoves

Rly only take the skillet on multi-day trips with my two girls(4, and 2 yrs old). Same fer the big nesting pot and bowl set. We stayed a week at a state park in June, between the nesting pot set, this skillet, and my 14" cast iron skillet we were good to go.

Same fer the handle. I may or may not be a fan of James Bender of Waypoint Survival. He still packs more usefulness than I do into custom kits, but last time I sent him pics of a new setup, he was encouraging and helpful(even tho I had wasted ALL the space).

Great contribution and nice pics. The French press especially is nice to see, I have a normal one for every day use but didn't know they made it for hiking use/lightweight as well. To answer the question, I just rince the daily drinker and wash it once in a while.
Tbh I might have been overthinking it, I'll just get the decathlon solo cook set and go from there.

Thx. Happy New Year, outsider. Here is palatka expanded. Got the Sterno Inferno bcuz I wanted something akin to Jetboil/Olicamp, but not at their price point. Found it at local grocery store fer 15 box. On a clam day, it does cause the alcohol stove to flare out, which looks cool but wastes fuel.

Mat is fer my butt. Drove truck, loading/unloading it while swinging sledge hammers all day fer 15 years(retired 5 years ago, this anon is 36). Anon's butt needs the pad. Blue tarp is 5'x7', serves as ground cloth or extension for palatka. Gray in fishnets is a fast drying tig ol' bowel.

Girls and I on a local lake. This is just a little up from where the trail that circumnavigates the lake intersects the boat launch. Maybe, ten minutes on my legs, longer with theirs. Little side trail leads to hidden gem tiny beach.

Circuits when with family, almost always by water, or along/on glacial leftover shit like eskers. My two girls can do about 2 miles with light hills before first rest stop for meal and sit down, water breaks interspersed in there ofc.

I also go off trail inside nature preserves if I have a day to myself. I am always taking note and bearings of stuff off trail I would like to get to, and I especially like to pick my way around a lake with no trail around it, keeping track of notable landmarks on the waters edge as I go along.

So it's got uh, 2 'bowls', a folding 'spoon', nifty gas stove I took out of here and have used since last week, a scrubber that will totes strip the non stick coating off, and what I believe to be a wooden rice paddle/spatchooler. I will take it out fer a couple hikes, just to see what this style of kit is like, but highly likely I repurpose this somehow.

Oh yeah, that's where I've seen that stove before. We used a Svea for mountaineering and the stove there was more for a patrol, smaller than a Coleman camp stove. The Coleman made the Peak1 and some of us went to those as a patrol stove. Thirsty but a beast. Boiled pasta for 9.

Lol, yeah, pretty much only when camping. It's a nostalgia thing. That mercury tho. Just got a dehydrator, scouting good deal/trade on a vacuum sealer, so I can start really driving cost down while controlling what is in the foodstuffs. I think I have a case of bacon SPAM somewheres in the pantry. If I am taking non-canned meat or plan on fishing I also bring a stick of lard, tallow, or schmaltz.

Have made dehydrated chicken and ground beef, turkey so far. They are alright, I am not great at manufacturing them so far. But yeah. A lot of the containers, bags and shit is dollar store or thrift store goods. Even the Kelty. The rest is Wal-Mart. I take preventative care, careful when using my gear, and do necessary maintenance. Works out just fine. I would like to play around with MSR or Soto, kits with all the tricks, fer now this works. Works well, to boot

It also raises the stove off the forest floor/grass. I have a lil custom fold in half tin rectangle that I burn on top of, a multipanel accordion fold wind shield fits inside of it closed. I'm out grocery shopping, can scrounge up some of my custom kit pieces later.
