Everyone agrees he was a horrible /out/doorsman.

Some people here dislike him because they see him as an idiotic, upper-middle class brat who really screwed his family and detest that he is idolized.

Some people here view him as a well intentioned, albeit, naive kid looking to discover something about himself by going /out/ who ultimately fell victim to his own lack of preparedness.

Well actually we don't know much about him aside from what the book and movie tell us, and both were written by a guy who worried more about making money with a good story than delivering a faithful one.

So the real McCandless might have been a good guy and actually well prepared, who just happened to make a mistake, something that can happen to anyone.

But considering people are only interested in talking about the fictional McCandless, then yeah, this one was a huge faggot.

Stiil, I very much enjoyed wstching it when it first came out and enjoyed rewatching it just recently.

I DEFY any /out/ies to renegade the Colorado from Lee's Ferry to Yuma!

Do that and you can piss and moan about the movie, book and Chris Mc Godtier all you want to, but the truth is, YOU WON'T.

It was a needless but probably unpreventable death the information about the amino acid in the wild potatoes simply wasn't widely known at the time that he died.

Yeah no, there are a few known facts and they all point to him being horribly unprepared, and foolish in thinking he had the ability to survive in the wilderness.

There was a recent report done which found that McCandless actually ate a type of "potato seed" which has a neurotoxin that is deadly when eaten while malnourished. Many people have had similar adventures and simply gotten lucky. See article for more information which suggests that he could have potentially survived much longer, if not indefinitely.
