What's your level of elitism regarding /out/? Is out for all who want it to partake? A select few? What qualifies someone as a true outdoorsman in your mind? What about kids and the elderly? Etc.

Are you going outside to better yourself and grow or to improve your image to others? As long as you are mindful and working to be as respectful to the outdoors as possible I couldnt care less what you do. My problem is tourists that trash places and crowd the countryside for pictures and stories they can brag about.

I feel you but I think the assertion that there is a large portion of people who go outdoors to look cool and get pics "for the gram" are small small (for men at least). It might look that way though because I think for a lot of people, driving out for a brief hike and a couple pics is the way to ease into outdoorsmanship. Especially people who didn't grow up with it. I think most burgeoning outdoorsmen have an awkward jackass phase at the start.

I want there to be as large of a barrier to entry as possible. Bigger fees to enter parks and all public land. An expensive access permit that requires classes and testing on respecting the outdoors in order to qualify. Gargantuan fines and criminal charges for littering. And even though most of my state is federal land, I would love it if out of state city shitters from areas such as CA and CO were banned from entry.

That sounds like a great way to get people to stop going outdoors. I'd give it a decade before they just started developing all of it or turning it over to private entities for management under a government contract because no one's using it.

Like it or not; the best way to preserve the outdoors is to give, and encourage access to the public. Kind of a catch 22

This is correct. The public will not vote to preserve something if they can’t use it. As much as it sucks to see cars rolling through the parks, those tourists will likely preserve the outdoors based on that experience. This is why the backcountry and permits exist—they provide a place for more experienced outdoorsman seeking to escape tourists.

That being said I believe the outdoors is like whisky, the right way to do it is the one to enjoy. Car camping, hiking, canoeing, hunting/fishing trips, mountaineering, motorcycle travel... You do you buddy, just preserve the environment

A certain level of disturbance in nature is a good thing for a dynamic forest. Wild boars turn the soil in a similar way creating habitat for niche species. I wonder if there are any ecological benefits to sport motorists.

Probably to a very limited extent, but does anyone know the answer to that?

problem is that if you are a farmer, they go and destroy your field, seeds, and force you to use lots of money to restore said field, watch it so you don't have to use more diesel and neighbors equipment to sow your field again.
also if you own a plot of land and some idiot without a helmet crashes and dies on your property, you'll be sued into nonexistence by their insurance looking to offload their insurance costs
