I'm looking to stuff my camera bag, coffee, water, and saltwater (for fasting) all into a day pack. Amazon trying to sell me some garbage from china that will instantly break. I'm pretty rough on things. Any recommendations?

Obviously I've heard of milsurp?

I guess I'm going to have to fucking go shopping and grab a few packs, all the Amazon ones have good reviews until you see the 1stars that show ripped cheap shit.

Any high quality brand recs at least?
My REI backpack is pretty awesome, it's just too big for what I want here and I don't really like the way it opens at the top.

Osprey talon 22L, lightweight, very comfortable, not too big yet still able to carry quite some weight, even with high weight good distribution, did a 2 hour fast walking hike with about 10 to 15kg in there after a trip and i barely noticed it.

I use one for day hikes. The body is 70D x 100D, while the bottom is much thicker, I think 450D, so sturdy enough. I like it because the the AirWhatever mesh back panel (similar to the Arc Blast and a bunch of other Osprey bags) and the fact that it has an actual hip belt.

Decathlon also has some good cheap choices.
My advice would be go for a pack without too much pockets, it's wasted space. You might want to be more specific on weight, size and price. I have a Lowe alpine flex 25 as my day pack because it was on sales, very handy for work and travels (hidden zippers and hidden pocket makes my passport etc safer), I can use it for small hikes as well. It also helps me figure out what bag size I like and its pretty cheap. I think around 30L one or two pockets is a good day pack for me.

Very few daypacks will have a frame. A full-on frame is excessive but a stiffening framesheet imo improves even the smallest bag in terms of comfort and packing. The nice thing with this is anything designed to carry a laptop also has a nice little place for you to slip in a MYOG framesheet.

What's your budget? I have a few ideas in mind but some of them are pretty pricey. Also, how open would you be to ditching your camera bag and getting a backpack that will organize and protect your kit by itself?

The Talon is a classic and one of the best designed zip daypacks for hiking around, but the fabrics are flimsy and I don't think everything OP wants to fit in there will fit easily.

pic related is a black carhartt daypack, legacy standard or whichever one had side mesh pockets (fits nalgenes)
great pocket locations, easy accessibility, and fucking indestructible. it's over a year old and quite literally has zero signs of wear. pretty kino too, couple girls have complimented it which is nice
i used an exacto to remove the internal elastic strap and logo, so it might look a little different

i sound like a fuckin ad but i shit you not this is the best backpack i have ever purchased, and at this rate might be my last
