Hey /out/, I was watching chapter 4 of the Ballad of Buster Scruggs-All Gold Canyon, and it got me thinking about how cool something like that would be. Having a chance to go out west for a week or 2, busting hump during the day and then having a nice campfire to sit by during the night. If I'm lucky I could even make some money, if such a thing is still possible, but if not, it's still a good way to spend a while in nature. Thing is I have no experience prospecting and very little experience even identifying rocks in general. I was wondering if anybody had any tips on what kind of equipment I might need, the locations I should aspire for, and what things I should research before investing anything but time into such a thing?
