What MREs do you use? I recently got some australian cr1ms but haven't used them yet.

Fewer shits, less risk. Do you need that? Multiyear shelf life, do you need that? Ready to eat without heat. Need it? I have MRE drinks and heaters always in the pack for an emergency because you could get hurt or unable to move and then you have a hot drink without a fire as a morale booster if you must hunker down for a night unexpectedly and very little weight penalty. Some MRE food items are okay, but a steady diet of MRE's? Ask a soldier that has eaten MREs for a month what that was like. On the other end is a packet of bisquick, instant oatmeal, electrolyte drink from walmart, high quality European instant coffee, deens (the good Portuguese kind), tomato paste in a tube, dry pasta, cured meats and cheeses, trail mix. You can be light without MRE or mountain house using real food. Just sayin.

The MREs I got have some electrolyte and protein drinks in them as well as a good mix of food. Could bring some rice and extra muesli or dried fruit to supplement what's in the MREs.

you can buy knorr/other brand powdered soup/stew, powdered potato mash, protein bars/chocolate bars of your choice, packets of energy drinks/hot chocolate/instant coffee/jams/peanut butter and bring reusable utensils and it will be cheaper, healthier, taste better, weight less and waste less

You contrarian larpers use the term "lowest bidder" like it's a bad thing. I think it's related to the whole retarded logic of higher price = higher quality. Millennials and gen z especially seem to live by it like it's a standard.
All it means is a group agreed to meet a requirement by bidding their price. It's the same requirement regardless of the agreed price.

i make my own because actual military MREs are designed to prevent you from pooping, to keep you awake and to keep you alive. they're not designed to keep you happy or healthy.
All an MRE is designed to do is to make it so you dont starve when on a 12 or 18 hour patrol until you get back to base camp, can have a hot shower and hit the mess for a hot meal prepared by army chefs.
