>>1991618>lasts for a day of hiking can easily bring backup brick anywaysThey don't even last for a day with heavy use, and power banks are WAY bigger and heavier than two extra AAA batteries. It's a waste of space.
>most modern smartphones are ok water exposureDrop it in a puddle, then.
>nope it tells you right where you are in secondsIf you even knew how satellite navigation works, you'd know why that's bullshit.
>a phone is 10x easier than sifting through Garmin's software and having to upload individual tracks to the unitYeah, Garmin's PC programs are kind of bullshit, but that's just one way to use it. Most of the time, you just turn it on and let it drop a breadcrumb trail. Literally couldn't be easier.
>a modern smartphone is wayyyy easier to use than any GarminNo, they're about the same. Again, it depends on the unit.
>again - you have literally never tried using Alltrails and don't know what you are talking aboutI've used garbage like it in the past. Now, I don't even have a fucking smartphone.
>I have tried using compass and paper map and this is much much easierYeah, that is true. Alltrails is easier, but it's not more reliable. A map and compass don't run out of battery power. That's why you should carry a map and compass, and know how to use them. Using satellite navigation as your primary means of navigation is perfectly fine, so long as you know how to navigate without it.
