German Shorthairs and Wirehairs are versatile and Ive had some that pointed rabbits and some that just chased them. Problem is the ones that chased them are a shit load faster than a beagle so they tend to blow your shot. Most of my bird dogs that show interest in rabbits lose it quickly in favor of birds.
If I were you I would get a German Wirehair bred up in the north woods. I would expect a smart, compact built dog, that was versatile, and tougher than boot leather. Drathaars are the peak of versatility and generally are the most fur oriented.
