People like to see the place being upkept instead of running it like an elitist hideaway for their tax exempt "parks and rec" deals
To think if Parks and "Recreation" actually did it's job, and selected areas that were nice, but off the mainstream paths they hike, they could have set up ski and snowboard areas for winter enjoyment
Instead they allowed concessions to be made from numerous angles in the govts locally and federally where they took trees in the preserved forests
They had themselves something of a continual harvest that continued whenever their new resorts decided that they would open.
In essence they directed the clearcutting to a central area that was then used, but the reasoning behind their use of the public lands, calling them private use only, had turned their outdoor recreation and preservation efforts to a free for all taking of every location that offered the chance for a good experience for all
The price of gear was something that drove off people in mass, and it took them from the public use into the membership base pass modes, where it became ludicrous to pay a day pass when 5 would cover an all year round pass.
They then had to "provide for their members" different high class perks to sell them, but that meant expanding with hotels, spas, small towns with expensive shopping, fashion wear, gear, and overpriced outdoor equipment for the sport.
They turned themselves into a "pay to escape from society" concept of a business and cut off the mass of people that really enjoy the sport but have very little money
