So I know this is going to sound fedora-core, however it's a legitimate question.
Why don't more hikers, backpackers, campers, wear a cloak? It seems like a cloak would be extremely useful as it would keep inclimate weather off of you, keep your warm in the dead of winter, protect you from harmful spines or stickers, keep mosquitoes and ticks off of you, act as a blanket for when you settle down and it gets nippy at night, and it can even be used as part of a makeshift shelter.
It's also simple to don and stays out of the way, since when its not in use, it can just be pushed onto your back. I wouldn't imagine it to be very heavy either.
Bonus points for if the cloak is hooded, because then your hair is protected from ticks, and it can keep the sun out of your eyes.
