I got a job offer in Huston but I’m not so sure about living there. What’s the /out/ scene like?

Pretty terrible. Probably the worst are in the country.All of the good hiking is in west Texas. You’re close to the gulf which has great fishing, but you’ll need an expensive boat and a truck to tow it.

The city itself is a shithole.

Decline the offer. Texas is currently being shit up with yuppies and Cali techbros. It's also one of the worst /out/ states in the Union, as the other anons have noted.

That said, it's going to serve as an excellent containment zone for all the tech liberals fleeing Cali. Texas is a much better location for them. Lots of room and nothing important to ruin.

Texas has a pretty bad /out/ scene because all the good land is privately owned. If you live in Houston then you will be driving to Kisatachie National Forest in Louisiana often. Which is mediocre. During the summer the Texas state parks, which are pretty good, are completely booked with reservations.

This. Houston is the gulf coast. Hiking is a no go. Campling is rare. Hunting means renting out private land. Its 100% fishing lifestyle down there. If you do not love fishing then it will be hell.
