I don't get the point but if it gets you out go for it. The technique is useless for safety and the flat ground stuff seems like it really limits your calories burned.
Spending over $100 on poles isn't worth it unless you're doing alpine stuff. Especially, if this is the first time you're useing poles. Trekking poles are barely worth it for me but others love or hate them.

Nordic walker here. You'll likely want to spend no less than about 2 thousand per pole to get the most nordic experience out of your walking.

Probably because they weren't handmade by a legit Nordic craftsman. It's not a super big deal as long as you don't try to go professional.

There a definite issue in the Nordic Walking Community (NWC) where there are "gear snobs". Luckily, /out/ doesn't have that all that much.
