Well /out/ My Denali finally died today. I've had it for almost 10 years now. Now I want something different.
Is there a better light jacket fleece for the money than this? I feel like I'm going to puke if I see another Northface logo.

Thanks for the suggestion. I keep running into this company called Arc'teryx. Apparently they make the most hardcore shit around. And their customer support is topnotch. I read a story where they replaced a dudes coat with a new model.

warmest fleece i have is made by zero xposur its a little thicker than your average fleece but it keeps me warm down to like 20F if there's no wind but with just a wind/waterproof shell over it ive used it down to -20 with wind and i was still pretty comfortable.

Arcteryx are fine, but expensive, and their tops fit weird. Patagonia are another brand who will generally replace stuff without hassle.

OP i would just search rei.com and go by reviews. fleece are mostly interchangeable, they're just made of polyester (plastic). i generally prefer wool though.

I'm a climber and I've only had one fleece jacket but I can share my experience with it and see if it meets your needs.

I have the Patagonia R1 non-hooded fleece. I fucking love it. it looks good, it's light, it's relatively warm (haven't been able to compare as I don't have any other fleece jackets), and it looks stylish enough to wear casually.

It has an athletic fit which i really like and I can layer over it easily because of that.

Columbia clothing in general is designed and cut more for the fat weekenders than anyone more athletic. It tends to be much larger around the midsection relative to the length.

North Face tends to cut about the same length as Columbia but not quite as fat. Probably perfect if you're about 5'10.

Patagonia I find tends to cut a little longer than North Face but with similar girth.

Companies like Marmot, Arcteryx, Icebreaker, tend to cut longer and slimmer still.

I have 2 cats in my house. Its less of a hair magnet that other fleeces to me. Tight weave so alot of "nature related" materials brush off very easy

But srsly, Patagonia and Arc'teryx are good quality but I think way too overpriced. I like my Patagucci softshell as I said but it's no better than some cheaper brands like Rab or North Face or whatever.

What I would recommend for a general all round jacket is a pile/pertex jacket. The pullover ones that Buffalo and Montane do are great. They are British brands but will ship overseas. Waterproof, breathable, warm even when wet, the whole package.

My Columbia coat has held up fine over the years.

Two piece with fleece liner and shell.

Ski trips, innawoods, etc etc.
