Consider this:
Reaching the peak of Mont Blanc was a big achievement in 1800 and considered a perilous journey that required a group of almost 100 people to put a single person on the peak, +20 people for each additional guy reaching the summit.
By 1900, it was a good training exercise for seasoned alpinists, required a crew of 20 people.
By 1930s, it was a non-challenge for alpinists and first tourists were pulling this off
By 1980s, it became something a random schmuck could do on a weekend with minimal prep (assuming he wasn't obese)
So by your logic, people were actually weak as fuck back in the day. After all, if they were all so damn tough, we should see that climb to be an easy feat for everyone and their dog, like it is today.
