Any sc/out/s go innawoods in winter?

I used to, but I got fat. Then I lost the weight again, so I want to go innawoods this winter. Probably no camping innawoods, but I would love some full day snowshoe trips and XC skiing.

I need some gear though. Jackets, pants, gloves, and boots for walking?

Also stories?

Hardshell or windbreaker of your choice plus a fleece in your backpack, merino base and light mid layer. Heavy synthetic hiking pants plus gaiters, cheap fleece gloves, and whatever water resistant insulated winter boots you got, dont forget the heavy wool socks. Layering is important when you snowshoe

Still not good enough, give it enough time and snow will still find it's way up and and then melt into your boots.
I have only owned 2 gaiters however, both pretty cheap I will admit.
Experience may vary I guess.

Almost every weekend when there's snow on the ground. Pic related.

Get good outerwear. Windproof/waterproof, lightweight, and breathable are important. Layer as needed underneath.

Plan to spend the night, even if you don't plan to spend the night. Things can go wrong in a hurry in the winter, much more difficult terrain and conditions in the snow. Not saying to pack 80lbs of gear, but do carry survival, signaling/communication, firestarting, and avalanche gear in case something happens.

14 cylinders, 8.5+ liters of displacement across all of them. Over 30 gallons of 91 octane, non-ethanol fuel in my garage, plus another 20+ cheap stuff in the truck.

Yeah, I've kind of stopped downhill snowboarding since my roommate got a snowmobile. We basically tool around the Castle Rock area while he tow-ropes me while I just ride along on my board. Fun times.

Spend all day shooting the shit and exploring. Winter is definitely better motorized.

Because it started its life as a dirt bike, '13 KX450F.
The 450s, even FI'd, are a bit of a dog turning the track at 10k feet elevation. The 500+cc bikes handled everything a lot better. 600+ is a lot of fun.

But I still like the 150hp my 800 twin puts out.

Need to get out that way again. Great riding in that area.

I live at the beach because I surf but man does it make it hard to get /out/ to places with snow. Don't know anyone who lives near snow that I could stay with either. Feels bad, favorite weather is snow by far.

Me and my buddies like to climb the Scottish mountains in Winter. Absoloutely fucking beautiful, Icy and snowy conditions in good weather are just gorgeous and being out in the wilderness really turns otherworldly.

As has been said you're gonna want to get a good clothing layering system and it's worth spending a bit o cash. You don't need the newest high tech gear from Arc'teryx but a good merino baselayer for up (and bottom if it's real cold), a good synthetic or fleece midlayer, quality durable synthetic (I like softshell) trousers and a breathable durable hardshell, both jacket and trousers. Goretex or eVent is worth investing in!

You'll also want a warm insulating layer. If it's quite a dry climate where you live get a good quality down duvet jacket for rest stops etc. Sweat you work up turns to icy clammy dampness very soon when you're sitting down for a rest. If it tends to get wet and changable in your country's Winter (like here in Scotland) get a synthetic insulated jacket because when down gets wet it's a bugger to dry it and it ruins it. Also good warm hat and a few pairs of spare socks gloves (including one woolen oversized pair for warmth when wet, I like Dachstein mitts because theyre super cheap and cosy.)

Also yeah bring the appropriate gear with you for getting stuck out if it's a long Winter daytrip, night falls fast. For this reason as well, working on your fitness is good to get where you want to go before nightfall and also because trudging through snow or XC skiing is tiring. As you know already.

Sorry for the long post, I just really love the /out/doors in Winter!

I really rate pile/pertex jackets like Buffalo for winter in boreal regions. I replied to this one because I winter climb in Scotland, can't wait for conditions to come in again, there's been snow on the Munros here already!

One of the best things about winter is that even routes that are busy in the summer are quiet as hell.

This mountain actually has a tram running up in during the summer and is busy as hell. There was only one other person on the mountain the day I took this picture, and they only went half way up (from the tracks I saw - I didn't actually run into them).

Why do i get drenched in sweat even with a merino baselaser and merino undies?

I'll start out cold, make my way up a hill and be soaked. I think my sweater has some cotton in it though. Is it possible sweat goes through my merino, into my sweater and just pools there?

Yes that's possible. Especially if your outer layer isn't permeable enough. If your hardshell jacket (or whatever you're wearing) has them, try to open the ventilation slits.

Regardless, the point of wool is not to stay dry, but to stay warm even when wet.

Rear brake is removed completely (which freaked me out the first time I rode one, when you're used to a motorcycle), front brake line is moved to a slave cylinder on the jackshaft.

On the bars you've got the clutch and brake levers, but rather than the brake lever controlling a brake on the front wheel, it stops the track.
