Just my experience in NZ.
I have an alpine bag. Has a fold down hood, no frame.
It’s ok in the snow, works fine in the snow.
Best with a plain nylon bag.
Goretex inside goretex (whatever brands they actually are?) tends to ice up inside.
Lower altitude in rain, water will pool on top, you roll over, and it runs down your neck.
Fix? Sleep semi/sitting.
Not ideal, but if you’re using it in the first place, meh whatever.
Your pack better be waterproof, it’s staying outside unless it’s <40L.
Sucks to get changed in.
Adds a surprisingly large degree of Deg.c comfort.
Cooking sucks unless you’re in a shelter or snow cave.
TLDR they do their job but you won’t be comfortable overall.
Oh and boots in sleeping bag or they freeze. Wear or not, depends on how wet and what your feet can handle.
