What's the best edition of the Boy Scout Handbook? The older ones don't have colored pictures and are poorly organized, while the newer ones use ugly photographies and have a bunch of stupid STEM crap added. I think it's pic related, but I want to know what /out/ thinks.

I've never goten a chance to thumb through any scout handbooks aside from a few glimpses into the modern ones. Your right OP, newer ones are somewhat shit. OLd ones are too expensive most of the time for me to justify buying, but if you want a decent read about old school campcraft pic related is a good read. You can get reprints modern for pretty cheap, about 5 bucks or so. Granted, it doesn't have any tips relating to modern equipment, but the techniques/ general advice still holds up.

Is there any uncucked scout like group in the US even? Not that I’d sign my kid up to be taught by someone else when I have the requisite knowledge required. But historically the BSA was at one point a great organization that served a noble purpose and as a society we should have something that fills that niche.

My old troop got shut down in 2012 because one of the leaders died of a heart attack and the other died the same year in a car accident.

Like, back in the day the dads of the kids were probably all friendly with each other and even if they didn't participate there was an understanding that they were for good stuff and not dumb shit.

Our scout master was a cuck and his wife basically ran it. Aside from the one trip I did I maybe attended half a dozen other little things but it was all woman shit like making quilts for the old folks home or singing fucking songs and they wanted to film it.

I told my friends they could just come over if they wanted to hang out and then I stopped going.

Also a fellow MI anon. Can’t wait for winter to fucking end I hate this 15 degree misery. I want to go do something.

That is in interesting point. All of the dads knew each other and each others families. Most of the scouts were actually relatives because of how small the community was. Everyone attended the church that the scouts were based off of and there was an understanding that scouting was supposed to be a place where boys learned what it was to be men.
It really did feel like a place where we were all comrades with a mission. Though if someone refused to do the PT, badges, or outings they would be kicked out of the troop. I was talking to a friend I had in college who was a scout in a different area about it. He had never heard of a scout being kicked out because of not jogging after school three times a week.

The mine thing was because a bunch of retarded cheeseheads and Hoosiers got trapped and the mines got filled in or guarded. The ghost towns and abandoned cabins are still there. you just need to know where to look and people are really protective of locations nowadays.

I’ve driven though some places where it’s semi ghost town. You know the places. All the old timer mining shacks long abandoned. Never gotten out to go check any of them out, figure the locals have picked them down to the frames long ago so they’re mostly just interesting to look at from the road.

Would be cool if any still had period datable stuff. I’d love to know when so many of those cabins and such were just left to rot. And why.

This, the issue has never been about girls wanting to be in BSA its been about people from outside the org using that as a way to hurt and undermine the organization.

Sure it wasn't bushcrafting but scouting was some of the most fun I had as a kid. It's too bad your local troop was such a letdown, it's probably a city thing. I'm sure the rural troops did/do much cooler things than my suburban one
