Are class B motorhoms (camper vans) a meme?

I’m paying 1500 a month in rent in small Appalachian city and am considering going full time but when I look at prices for a factory made camper the prices always make me think it’s a meme and I end up talking myself out of it. (100k plus for a pleasurway/ Thor dodge conversion.

I would have home base in South Florida at my moms condo if I did this as full time trailer would not sneak by an HOA.

Should I do it anons? Or am I being a fag? Pic related in airstream version for about 140k.

I feel like I could just buy decent house with this kind of money instead and try the homestead meme instead

Exactly. There is a little sweet spot with RVs though, around 7-10 years old, where a year or two older doesn't matter that much, if you find something for a good deal (maybe needing some repair) you can fix it and use it for a year or two then sell for a profit. Have done it a few times with various trailers and made out on top each time. You have to find just the right deal though. You can often get them for cheaper becasue when people fall on hard times the first thing they sell is their RV. Unless it's someone upgrading a lot of people are selling because they need to sell or want it off their driveway. Sometimes you can scoop something cheap if you find the right seller who needs to sell. Just saying. I've done it

The first time i did it i bought this tent camper off a single mother i was fucking on the side. she didn't think it worked so i got it for like 300$. Got it home and found out she was just missing some of the poles so I got some used ones and had a good condition camper. Camped it 2 years then sold for $2400

Since then i usually find a 20' trailer from someone who needs to sell like i said above, then jew them down on price, fix and clean it up a little bit, camp the shit out of it, then sell in a year or two. It's a good system as long as you don't get greedy

if you mean a normal-sized van, yeah it's do-able but you'd either want all of your hobbies to be outdoors (so you're away from the van most of the time) or to be netflix/vidya (so you dont mind being cramped in 2x4 living space all the time).

Have you considered going smaller if it's just a short-term thing to save money? I had a shitload of fun living out of a 70's Viscount caravan for a year and saved a ton of cash in a similar area, maybe even enough for a house deposit.

Convert a van you sperglord. The whole point of living in a vehicle is so you don't spend the equivalent of a house ($140k wtf). A used van on offer up is $2-$5k, some are already converted. Toy-haulers and trailers are $5-15k and you don't have to convert them, they're already a house. On the higher end of that, you can get one that is near new condition wise, but is about 6+ years old. Suppose you splurge and go custom on a van or get a clean used RV, you should spend no more than $30k. I recommend a van if you never want to pay for land. You can bum a parking lot each day.

$5k van. $220 every 6 months for my car insurance I'm already paying to drive to work, $14 a month for filling up a 20 gallon water tank (you can also bum water for free), $20 for propane every 3-6 months for the stove, $15 a month for gym to use showers I am also already paying for. $45 a month for phone which includes hotspot to use as wifi, also already paying for (you can go without this) or park in front of McDicks. Park in grocery store parking lots or on free camp sites. $1k for emergencies. You shouldn't spend more than $10k a year to live in a converted van.
