she is into survival / bushcrafting. slept one night in the woods. we had only beer, meat, a camp fire and a shelter made from branches.

I've tried to encourage some of my closer friends to come along but they get scared if an area doesn't have 3G signal or a plug socket.

The last time I took the gf camping she ended up getting hypothermia after an argument about how she wanted to go back to the car in the middle of a scottish storm. I spent the night looking for her and found her passed out under a overhang, scary shit in gale force winds and freezing rain.

I have a few friends who like camping. But none who are as much into bushcraft as I am. So when I go /out/ with them it's usually a mix between modern and traditional camping.
I end up providing most of the fires and stuff. I'm also usually the only one with a sawblade, hatchet and a decent knife. But I don't mind since I enjoy it. I try to make them not use their camp stoves as much as possible. They dont seem to mind as long as it's not their kettle that gets all the soot on it.
Only thing that irritates me is that they'll occasionally put on music on their mp3 players. I love music, but any type of electronic device gets me out of my primitive mood.
It seems to me that they never really disconnect from the real world as much as I do. But whatever, if that's the way they enjoy it, who am I to tell them it's not the right way?

I guess it's hard to find people who do pure bushcraft anyway. Even when I talk to people who are likeminded, they'll usually still have a more modern approach than I personally prefer.
Even most people on /out/ seem to enjoy modern camping more than real bushcraft.

It's all good, though. As long as people are going /out/ and being at least semi-serious about it, I have no beef with them.

I always go out alone because I don't have anyone who enjoys /out/ the way I do.
My childhood was filled with Ray Mears, Steve Erwin and survival stories (I AM alive etc) I've grown up with that other people have not. I don't know why we all had the same television.
I don't think I've really been /out/ since I had a friend called Jack. His father owned a lot of land and built his own house innawoods just down the road from a castle ruins. Farley Castle, England in case your wondering. Whenever we went round to his house which was often because the poor dude lived in the middle of nowhere with no friends we would go camping paint balling and the like.
Other than that I usually go out alone.

Me and two others go often and we will hike quite some distance as well as do some mountain climbing etc. Every so often we'll go minimalist and only take a few items of gear like a sleeping bag and a tarp for shelter.

I know a couple of other people who come along occasionally but that's more of a car camping vibe and they start to complain if the walk to site is more than about a mile. Booooring!

There's a whole other group that see the woods as a nice place to get pissed, it can be fun and I don't mind insisting on LNT and running through fire safety, they generally listen and sometimes get really into it.

I've only met 1 girl so far who is ACTUALLY into camping and outdoors and climbing (haven't been able to take her outdoor climbing yet due to injury). I fell for this girl, because she has all the same interests as me. Pyschedelics as well. But got friendzoned.... feels bad man.

I just want to meet another girl like this who is as down for outdoor shit as I am. why are they so rare, fuck.

The rest of my friends are the kind who would only want to do easy hikes or easy camping and then just post photos of it on instagram >_>

I myself go /out/ with my GF and some friends. With friends it's mostly for like 3-5 days hikes in the country, and my GF of course comes.

But with my GF we go on longer trips abroad, we recently went to Nepal for 3 weeks. She isn't really "out", she just likes seeing beautiful landscapes, and she knows she has to walk for that, and she's okay with it.
She lets me take care of the gear, plan the route and all that stuff, and she's not the "omg my feet hurt we've been walking for 10 minutes are we there yet" type. She basically accompagnies me, and I'm fine with that.
